The teachers have been posted to the various secondary schools in the state.
The Kano State Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSMB) said on Saturday that it recruited 6,000 new teachers into public secondary schools in the state in the past two years.
The Director-General of the board, Habib El-Yakub, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano that the teachers were recruited as part of efforts to provide qualitative education to students in government-owned schools.
He said that the teachers, who had since been deployed to the various schools, possessed the requisite qualifications. He said that they were recruited after undergoing rigorous oral and written examinations.
According to him, the board has also cleared the backlog of promotion it inherited by promoting 10,000 teaching and non-teaching staff.
Mr. El-Yakub said the state government constructed 400 houses for teachers in 200 secondary schools to tackle the shortage of accommodation in the institutions.
“We have also introduced special allowances for teachers posted to rural areas, games masters, house masters and science teachers, among other incentives.
“This welfare package is aimed at encouraging and motivating the teachers to do their best in the discharge of their responsibilities,’’ the Director-General said.
He said that the state government also provided the board with six new Toyota Hilux buses to enhance its operation, especially its monitoring and inspection activities.
