The APC denounced the FG over ultimatum to ASUU
A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, said on Friday that the party was not about any of its leaders, but about the need and commitment to rescue Nigeria from inept leadership.
He said that the defection of five Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors, to APC last Tuesday, would bring about the change the nation had craved for.
Mr. Tinubu spoke at the 2012/2013 Call to Bar ceremony of the Nigeria Law School, which held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The PDP governors who joined the opposition APC, alongside other chieftains of the New PDP, which fused into the opposition party, were Chibuike Amaechi (Rivers), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Musa Kwankwaso (Kwara) and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto).
Two other governors in the group, Sule Lamido (Jigawa) and Babangida Aliyu (Niger) distanced themselves from the alliance.
”The APC is not about Tinubu, Buhari or any of its leaders. It is about the nation and how we can come together and work together to rescue Nigeria from inept leadership,” Mr. Tinubu said.
“The implication is change. We want to change the way things are done by working together and investing our ideas. We must change the way we do things. Imagine from the 60′s till date.
“The cutlass of the 60s cannot be used for farming now. We need leaders that can think outside the box.”
The former Lagos State Governor said Nigeria needed a democratic revolution that would unleash infrastructural development and massive industrialization.
According to him, Nigeria was a blessed nation with talented youth whose potentials must be harnessed for the development of our country.
”The lamentations must stop. After so many years of lamentation with action, we must lead the new resolve to rally for the much needed change our country badly needs,” he added.
On the ultimatum given to the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, by the Federal Government to resume work by December 4 or face sack, Mr. Tinubu condemned the posture of the government, insisting the country should be concerned about losing more brains to the outside world.
”We are not in a military era. The language used shows a government out of tune with the general feelings of Nigerians. Nigeria cannot continue to afford to lose her best brains to the Diaspora,” he said.
